Mary Gladys Curtis (Estep-Routh)
Gladys was the eleventh of 13 children born to Bertha and Edward Curtis. Gladys attended Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. After graduation, she moved to Baltimore, MD to live with her cousin, Beatrice Cuff. While there she accepted a position at Reeds Drug Store for a short time. Later she relocated to Washington, DC and began her career withthe U.S. Dept. of Navy. It was during this time that she met William E. Estep (deceased) of Fair Haven, MD. The two were joined in Holy matrimony on April 30, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. Gladys moved to Fair Haven and years later to Dunkirk, MD. From this union they were blessed with five children; Gloria (Little), William "Duck" Eugene, Jr.(Joy), Vaughn G. (Romcesa), Warren L., and Carl Thomas (Karen)(3/25/1949 - 8/16/1996). Gladys met Vernon Gilbert Routh and the two fell in love and joined together in marriage on January 1, 1999. They enjoyed their beautiful marriage until his death on March 1, 2005.
